Mike’s Espresso Martini

16 Jul

Despite my ever evolving and maturing taste buds, tea and coffee, in both liquid and flavour form, are taste sensations I have never warmed to, pardon the pun. (Don’t roll your eyes. I’m writing this late on a Sunday night). However, when someone comes at you with a large martini glass, a grin and a cry of ‘go on, try it’, as my Nana says, you have it to do.

Espresso Martini

So I did. Sweet, bitter and earthy, all in one shiny glass. It looked, smelled and tasted heavenly, and shows that when mixed with Absolut Vanilla vodka, I am fair game for any flavour combination going. My Uncle Mike, purchaser of fine wine and mixer of killer cocktails, also tried it out with a Cuervo Gold tequila, which made for a fruitier (and as expected) headier version.

So, as tantalisingly hinted at (and promised) in my last post, here is the recipe for Mike’s Espresso Martini. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 shots vanilla vodka *
  • 2 shots kahlua coffee liquer
  • 1 shot espresso – freshly made and piping hot **
  • 3 coffee beans

Method

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker full of ice.
  2. Shake vigorously.
  3. Strain into a martini glass.
  4. Decorate with the coffee beans.

* Substitute for tequila if you are brave.

** Makes for an enticing creamy froth on top which gives you the classic coffee lip foam.

Even I like this despite the fact that I am not a lover of strong alcoholic drinks. A nice balance and a good pick me up part way through a long night! A delicious homemade cocktail x
